Sew Inspired: Lavender heat pack

With every passing year, we’ve noticed the aches and pains seem to sneak up on us more often. A quick trip to the microwave, and these soothing heat packs can help with anything from sore muscles to those annoying stress headaches. With only flannel, uncooked white rice, lavender seeds* and a sewing machine, you’ll be minutes away from relief. Cut your fabric to the desired size (we’ve found 12″ by 5″ works great for us) and lay one piece on top of the other, with print on the interior. Using a straight stitch, sew the sides together, leaving about a two inch opening. Turn your fabric inside out and fill with rice and lavender seeds (about 3/4 full). Turn the sides of the open edge in and sew closed.  Finally, pop in the microwave for approximately 1 minute and indulge! Also a great way to treat yourself to a short break at work and recharge those batteries. Happy Weekend!

Personalized Pin Board

Framed cork boards have been spotted all over Pinterest lately, inspiring us to create our own.  We love seeing all the unique takes on this office must have.  After removing the glass and backing, we cleaned off the frame and lightly sanded.  Then we spray painted the frame and patiently allowed it to dry completely (for this project, we used Krylon in Global Blue).  We then cut the cork board and fabric to size, using the frame’s original backing to measure.  We covered the cork with our bright floral fabric and carefully hot glued the edges. So as not leave all the excitement in the front of the board, we livened up the back by adding some fun contact paper before putting the frame back together. Add some cute pins and…ta-dah! we’ve given new life to a frame that was yearning for a dramatic change!
