Sneak Peek Week

We’ve mentioned our upcoming trade show in a few posts—and can’t believe it’s almost here!  This Saturday, we will be at the Red Rooster in New Braunfels, Texas with 15 or so other vendors.  This past weekend, we spent lots of time organizing and planning the final details.  We’ve collected some fabulous pieces and our projects are ready to meet some great new people!  Today, we’d like to share a preview of some of our finds.  These photos show snippets of our vintage kitchen collection.  On Wednesday, we will be posting the full photos with descriptions. For now, can you guess what any of these items are?

Three Step Thursday

Embellishing lamp shades is a simple and thrifty way to spruce up any room. We’ve seen shades with a variety of frill– from lace to feathers.  Last year, Ingrid took her plain bedroom lamp shades and wrapped them in twine to create a whole new look.  The simplicity of this project is perfect for a three step Thursday!  Inspired by our vintage thrift store lamp, we added inexpensive flowers to this simple square shade.

Children’s Park Bench

A few times a month, our favorite thrift shop will discount its furniture by 50%. It was on one of these special occasions that we came across this adorable children’s park bench. The size caught our attention and we fell in love with the animal detail on the back. The bench needed some repair- the wood was greying and begged for some luster.  We unscrewed each wooden plank and sanded, revealing the surprisingly great condition of each piece.  Using Rustoleum wood stain, we layered a new look onto each plank.  With the plastic animal backing now separate from the bench, we coated it with a yellow Valspar spray paint.

Now, if only we could get our hands on a bit of Alice’s shrinking potion……

Mexican Folk Art

Mexico is a beautiful country- rich with culture, history, and art.  Living in south Texas, we see Mexican influence everywhere–from food to décor.  The traditional bright colors and patterns used in pottery, clothing, and furniture have a way of cheering up even the gloomiest day.  We snatched up this “Virgen de Guadalupe” at a thrift store, and decided to dust off the acrylics.  The Virgen de Guadalupe image is seen all over Mexico, and is a huge part of the Mexican culture and Catholic faith.  The wood work is gorgeous and looks handmade; however, we decided the browns were entirely too drab!  She appears to be very pleased with her new bright colors and design….

From Green To Glam: Patio Chairs Reinvented

The brightness of summer is slowly fading. With school zones flashing away and stores beginning to stock their pumpkins (a bit prematurely, in our opinion), we bid farewell to the long summer days.  In Texas, however, it’s patio season most of the year.  When the weather is bearable, we love being outdoors—on the covered patio, in the garden, or recently, in Ingrid’s new hammock!  Right around this time, the patio furniture starts to go on clearance.  Unless we find an absolute steal, we still love sticking to our trusty thrift stores!  These green chairs were crying out for help when we spotted them.  They begged us to take them home and promised to look beautiful after a bit of cleaning and paint.  They definitely did not disappoint!
